Moving my personal blog and a new RSS feed URL (goodbye and thanks Micro.blog)

Hey :)

This is just a quick update on this post- RSS feed changes

I’m moving from Micro.blog to a new platform.

  • I am going to be moving to a new blogging platform this weekend (for my personal blog). Maybe tonight. It just depends how things go.
  • The aeryn.me domain will be moved to the new platform too.
  • The new feed URL will be at https://aeryn.me/feed/.
  • If you wish to continue to follow this blog in your feed reader, you will need to add it again because I am unable to add feed redirects on the new platform.
  • My Micro.blog-hosted site will remain live for some more months whilst I continue migrating posts. But will eventually disappear, I expect.
  • I do not intend to delete my account (I want to preserve timeline posts) but will let it lapse back to a free account.
  • I will most likely not be posting to Micro.blog anymore. 🤷‍♀️
  • I am now microblogging on Mastodon and still adding Micro.blog folks there gradually. I love that I can continue to follow, although there does feel like some distance now, which is a shame.
  • I cross-post from Mastodon to Bluesky too.

Lastly, although I will potentially write about Micro.blog again in the future, I just want to say thank you to Manton, support people, and the community. Thanks for making me feel welcome and being generally a friendly, supportive, and wholesome place.

Bye and see you around

Aeryn x

Edit to add: I think I may have figured out a RSS redirect at the new place. Not sure.

RSS feed changes

Hey,

I am migrating this blog (aeryn.me) to a new platform soon. And all existing RSS feeds will break.

I have set up a feed redirect on the current platform. If you would like to continue to follow my blog, please subscribe this new URL.

The new feed URL will be: https://aeryn.me/feed/

This URL will be the Atom feed address on the new platform, and should be a valid redirect until I complete the move. But I’m not sure all RSS feed clients will happily ‘subscribe’ to a redirect, or not.

So, if you subscribe and you don’t hear anything within a couple of weeks, please check my blog again. I’ll be posting RSS/Atom feed options on the new platform once I’ve moved over.

I've been on Micro.blog for just over a year and it's time to renew for another

I have successfully downgraded my Micro.blog account to the standard plan. It was pretty seamless and easy and will take affect in a few days.

Reasons are nothing to do with the recent micro drama but mainly because I realised I just don’t really need all those features, particularly. And the standard plan represents great value.

I do believe this is a great platform, and an extremely valuable part of the Internet. But I’ve found at times it’s just a bit too glitchy and chaotic for me.

I would love to see Micro.blog become a solid, stable platform. But in my perspective, it isn’t really that at the moment. And I don’t think it’s for casual users at all. Although maybe Micro.one is.

Then again, I have no idea what it takes to keep something like this going. I can appreciate that it must be incredibly hard work.

So thanks to Manton and everyone else working behind the scenes and contributing to the platform in various ways.

I’ve really enjoyed getting to know some people a little, and beginning to feel like I’m a part of an online community again after leaving the socials behind. And I’m really glad some of the more uncomfortable features and behaviours of social media are not present here.

Here’s to another year.. 🍻

Final Newsletter Announcement

I will soon be disabling the newsletter feature for aeryn.me. (By the end of the year).

Privacy info: I will not be keeping the list of subscribers. Before I disable the newsletter feature I will delete all emails from my account on the Micro.blog platform. And I will not keep a local copy for myself.

Newsletter info | Action required

I will soon be disabling the newsletter feature for aeryn.me. (By the end of the year).

I believe I have almost zero ‘real’ subscribers. And when I look at the list of emails, I have to say something doesn’t look right. 🤷‍♀️

Anyway, having this feature hasn’t been a particularly enjoyable experience for me. And certainly not worth the investment. So it’s going to have to go.

Apologies to you one or two real subscribers. I have no alternative email-based solutions to offer.

I do offer a wholehearted recommendation that you look into RSS feeds as an alternative method of being notified, if you want to continue following along.

This page will be updated sometime soon with this information and suggestions for RSS noobs.

Note for Email Subscribers of aeryn.me who might be reading this on the 12th of November

I will be changing the email newsletter frequency from weekly, to daily.

Hopefully you will have seen my note about this from last week.

More information can be found on the Subscribe page.

Thank you

Note for Email Subscribers of aeryn.me

In a few days I will be changing the email newsletter frequency from weekly, to daily.

Once I make this change, each email will include all posts published on aeryn.me over previous 24 hours. And if there are no posts, there will be no email.

More information can be found on the Subscribe page.

Gaming on aeryn.me: I’ve changed the category of “Gaming” to “Games” and have added redirects.

Gameplay videos won’t be shared to socials. They’re on YouTube and Games. 🎮

I’ve been tinkering with CSS and Sumo theme for my personal log. I realised I could grab colours from my Noir browser extension for Dark Mode. It’s looking ok with some more tweaks needed.

I expect I’ll go for something funky, fun, and colourful in the future but for now, this mostly works.

Email Subscribers

This is just a heads-up for email subscribers of the aeryn.me blog. Or people who are attempting to subscribe but are maybe having difficulties.

I’m not sure how many people are affected. And I’m surprised people are actually subscribing by email at all. I had been thinking of disabling it.

There seems to be some issue on the back end with Micro.blog (the host of this blog). They have been updating their email service recently, and apparently a couple of issues have cropped up.

This has led to me receiving regular error messages in my own inbox that seem to be related to potential subscribers having problems signing up.

I just want to let you know, Micro.blog are working on the issue and hopefully it will be resolved soon. So maybe you could try again in a few days.

Thanks for your patience. And apologies for any confusion that’s occured.

Updating categories on aeryn.me - RSS feed updates

Just a heads up for anyone following this blog by RSS. I’m updating and changing, deleting, and re-organising categories on this blog. Which will affect Category RSS feeds. These may break. I’ve already put in some redirects but maybe I missed, or messed some up. Or will do, as this will be ongoing for a little while.

The only feed that is definitely safe is the main site feed, here:

a zero sum game?

I’ve been experiencing a bit of a mental/emotional breakdown over the last few days. It’s been rough. And I’ve been doing a lot of self-reflection. Not deliberately, but it think it’s just part of it.

Parallel to this I finally came to the decision that I would go back onto antidepressants after seven years being off them. Day one has been very groggy so far.

I also realised I am spending far too much time and energy consuming the opinions and views of others, whilst partially abandoning my own truth and my self.

I really want to talk about this stuff a lot more. It’s super important. And maybe I will.

In the meantime I will be withdrawing somewhat from the current social media paradigm (again). Even from the wholesomeness of the Micro.blog timeline.

I don’t know what this will look like for me. But I need to address the balance of consuming and creating. And I fear that social media – no matter how wholesome – is an absolute dead weight in that equation. For me at least. As if trying to find balance is a futile exercise. A kind of zero sum game where the entire Internet always wins just because I took part in it.

What I love about the internet doesn’t have much to do with social media at all. I really enjoy reading blogs about people’s lives: their struggles and triumphs; their art; moments in their day; all that stuff. I enjoy interacting with them in my RSS feeds or email subscriptions. I love to reply and chat, or just offer empathy, a word of support about whatever it is.

Anyway.

I’m going to continue to post my work to these three blogs that I have (below). But I’m not sure how much of it I will share to social timelines (Micro.blog and Bluesky) any longer. Or how active I will be generally.

Maybe this is just a little break and I will ease myself back in later.

Thanks for reading,
Aeryn

My blogs-

  • aeryn.me - mostly short form posts; thoughts; snaps and clips from my day
  • Art Journal
  • Being Me - longer posts, blogs, podcasts about mental health; healing; spirituality; woo woo

RSS feeds and email newsletters can be found on those sites.

Over, and out.

Blog Notes and Changes to Being Me, and Art by Aeryn

I decided to split this blog up.

aeryn.me

It all began as a catch-all blog on the Micro.blog platform (previously on Blot). Just for anything I was working on.

💜💜💜

And that suited me very well. I’m a haphazard creator and just need to go with that until stuff begins to make sense.

Then Micro.blog upgraded their

I have been updating fonts and colours on my Micro blog at https://aeryn.me/ using Tiny Theme. For light mode and dark mode.

I think it works. But is it in good taste? 🤷‍♀️

I think there’s a problem with videos displaying on my Micro.blog website. I know they are there and I know they are playable. I just can’t get any of them to play on my phone anymore. I need to investigate.

They can be viewed on my YouTube channel until I fix it.

I withhold some posts in /categories/being-me/ from posting to the Micro.blog feed. This is my ‘spirituality’ blog/vlog and can instead be followed by RSS, or email.

I have a livestream this weekend. If anyone is interested please check here for the announcement.

✱ I’ve moved my domain aeryn.me from my Blot account to this Micro.blog account. It was super smooth to do.

I think I’ve successfully redirected the Blot RSS feed to the new URL too. So, any Blot RSS subscribers should have just received recent posts from my Micro.blog.

I’m super happy with Blot and intend to use my account for a different project soon. If you’d like to stay up to date with that, you can follow the RSS feed for that.
